1979's THE STORY'S BEEN TOLD, like its immediate predecessor JOURNEY TO ADDIS, is a transitional album bridging the traditional roots reggae of early albums like 1976's self-titled release and the more pop-oriented and keyboard-heavy work of Third World's later years. The balance is still tilted towards the rootsy and the Rasta, however, making THE STORY'S BEEN TOLD a fine example of the band's classic era.

These seven lengthy songs are funky reggae workouts evenly divided between Rastafarian devotionals like "Irie Ites," and more playful party tunes like "Having a Party" and "Come Together." The gently flowing title track, one of Third World's finest, closes the album on an appropriately high note.

A mi criterio, una de las mejores bandas a la hora de interpretar un reggae fusionado con la música soul. Este es un gran disco, la creación de diferentes climas es un logro que no ha de pasar desapercibido. Excelentes líneas de bajo y composiciones vocales en temas como Rejoice, Cool Meditation y Fret Not Theyself por nombrar algunas. Metiéndonos un poco más profundo en los años venideros al disco tenemos al cover que encontramos, Now That We Found Love de O'Jays consiguendo estar en el Top Ten de los American R&B en 1979 asi como también en el Britisth pop Top Ten en ese mismo año. El simple 'Cool Meditation' llegó al Top 20 británico.

Third World es una banda oriunda de Jamaica formada en 1973. En su estilo de interpretar el reggae se pueden notar fuertes influencias del soul, funk y el dance.

Fundada, originalmente, por el tecladista Michael 'Ibo' Cooper y el guitarrista y chelista Stephe 'Cat' Coore. Ambos se formaron en escuelas de música en Kingston y anterior a iniciar este proyecto formaron otras bandas de reggae, entre ellas, Inner Circle rondando el año 1968. Para la iniciativa que habían comenzado convocaron al bajista de Inner Circle Richard Daley, como así también al baterista Carl Barovier (fue rapidamente reemplazado por Cornell Marshall), el percusionista Irvin ''Carrot'' Jarrett y el vocalista principal Milton ''Prilly'' Hamilton. Third World empezó tocando en lo clubes y locales de Kingston, en un principio se les hizo difícil conseguir una discográfica que los apoye, ya que la mayoría en Jamaica trabajaban con artistas sound system. Este problema lo resolvieron viajando a Inglaterra en el 74 para realizar un tour y firmando con Island Label quienes lograron que Third World se presente en vivo precediendo a Bob Marley and The Wailers durante su gira europea en 1974. En 1976 lanzaron su primer disco 'Third World' y luego en 1977 lanzaron este disco que les vengo a mostrar. Es importante aclarar que en este albúm cuentan con la presencia de un nuevo baterista Willie 'Roots' Stewart y el nuevo vocalista William Clarke. Este disco tuvo una gran crítica en EEUU y Europa, precediendo exitosos discos y temas que voy a estar compartiendo más adelante.
