Clinton Fearon & Boogie Brown Band - Faculty Of Dub (Jamaica, 2008)
Gun”, “Livin’
is an Art ” y “Life
is Not Aways Easy ”.
“Chinna” Smith, Kiddus
I y The
gran“Bassie” Clinton.

Step up to higher education...Clinton
Fearon has scaled another musical summit with the release of his eighth album
and his first purely dub CD. Faculty of Dub is a higher education in sound. If
his previous work established Fearon's tenure in the reggae world, the 15 lessons on
this album reveal a deeper mastery. They teach us to transcend melody and
lyrics, into direct experience. Your heart and bones will understand-without
taking notes.
I've been thinking about this album for a long time, Clinton reveals. In
Faculty of Dub he gives vent to creative experimentation that builds upon his
previous work. The layered sounds, echoes and reverberations blend into
songscapes evocative of the legendary Jamaican sound system engineers. You may
recognize some rhythms from earlier recordings, but this album is original in
every sense.
Recorded in Seattle with the Boogie Brown Band, he teams especially strongly
with singer and musician Ire, whose experience hails from Culture, and Winston
Watson of Meditations fame. Horns, flute, and lead guitar are key ingredients,
and respect is due to every member of the band for consistently strong
performances. But when Professor Fearon picks up his bass, partnered with ex
Burning Spear drummer Nelson Miller, watch out! You will see why he is also
known as Basie, a name earned during the Studio One and Gladiator
years. The lessons set forth by these combined talents will stay with you for
life. Clinton Fearon has once again put together a remarkable album that will
also be available on vinyl. Your assignment: listen with all your senses.

Scientist Meets The Roots Radics - Scientist Meets The Roots Radics (Jamaica, 1981)
Brown (Scientist) was introduced to electronics by his father, who worked as a television and radio repair technician. He began building his own amplifiers and would buy transformers from Tubby's Dromilly Road studio, and while there would keep asking Tubby to give him a chance at mixing. He was taken on at Tubby's as an assistant, performing tasks such as winding transformer coils, and began working as a mixer in the mid-1970s, initially creating dubs of reworked Studio One riddims for Don Mais' Roots Tradition label, given his chance when Prince Jammy cut short a mixing session for Mais because he was too tired to continue. The first hit record that he mixed wasBarrington Levy's "Collie Weed".
He left King Tubby's studio at the end of the 1970s and became the principal engineer for Channel One Studio when hired by the Hoo Kim brothers, giving him the chance to work on a 16-track mixing desk rather than the four tracks at Tubby's.
He came to prominence in the early 1980s and produced many albums, his mixes featuring on many releases in the first part of the decade. In particular, he was the favourite engineer of Henry "Junjo" Lawes, for whom he mixed several albums featuring the Roots Radics, many based on tracks by Barrington Levy. He also did a lot of work for Linval Thompson and Jah Thomas. In 1982 he left Channel One to work at Tuff Gong studio as second engineer to Errol Brown. He then emigrated to the Washington, D.C. area in 1985, again to work in studios as a sound engineer. (Fuente: Wikipedia)

Faya Horns Meet Mad Professor And Joe Ariwa (Jamaica, 2008)
Temas oscuros a temas dulces, extremadamente recomendable.
(Fuente: Wikipedia)

Swaby grabó varios temas como "Higgi Higgi", "East of the River Nile", "Song of the East" y "The Red Sea" entre 1971 y 1973 para el sello Aquarius Records de Chin-Loy.
También trabajó con Dillinger, Norris Reid, I-Roy, Jacob Miller, Te -Track, The Immortals, Paul Blackman, Earl Sixteen, Roman Stewart, Lacksley Castell, The Heptones, Ricky Grant, Delroy Williams, Horace Andy y Freddy McKay. Éstos fueron seguidos por East of the River Nile (1978), Original Rockers de 1979 y Rockers Meets King Tubbys In A Firehouse, otro éxito.
